Does anyone know a store that has a EF to RF adaptor, either the basic one or one with the control ring available? I managed to snag a R6 but no adaptor :-( They are backordered 4-6 weeks at the big stores.

Keep checking the Canon site, or pre-order. in the mean time, grab a 3rd party. :)

Welcome to the club.
As Jake said, keep an eye everywhere or get the third party as a stop gap.

When I decided to buy R5, I first bought the adapter (the moment I found it was available someplace). I got my R5 several weeks after.

I did watch the Canon site and found one with a control ring in stock there today. The only downside is they charge $15 to ship 3 day delivery, which actually turns out to be 6 days in my case according to FedX. Oh well, not as bad as it could have been.

Thanks for your advice.

Yeh, I paid the 3 day delivery option and got the product in 6 days. Not on same product.

I used the Vello adapter until my Canon adapter arrived. The Vello was $89; the Canon is $99 and MUCH better built. I gave away my Vello adapter once the Canon arrived. Some folks have used the Meike adapter and report that it works. It's reasonably priced at $57. I have Meike RF extension tubes, and I like them.

A good alternative is 3rd party adapters. They work just as well as the Canon at half the cost. Good to hold you over until you find a Canon or you just saved money.

I have the MEIKE and love it. Of all the 3rd party adapters, this one has a weather sealing gasket

Thanks for the input folks.

I wanted to give you a little update on my quest to buy a Canon adapter.

As I mentioned, I found that the Canon store had adapters with the control ring available on January 20, a couple of days after my original post. I ordered one that evening and received an email confirming my order. I expected to receive it within 7 days. At the Canon store they say regular shipping (which costs $15) should take between 3 and 7 days. I live less than 700 miles from the Canon warehouse so I hoped for shipping on the shorter end of their estimate.

On Friday, January 29 I still had not received it, nor had I received any other communications from Canon. I called the 800 number and after waiting on hold I learned from the agent that my order, the one I had been confirmed by email, did not exist in their system.

After some discussion, I ordered the adapter again. I asked them to expedite the shipping, for free, to make up for the messed up original order. After waiting for a supervisor to approve they agreed to it. I later received a email confirmation and my credit card was charged within a few minutes of the call.

On Tuesday, February 2 I had not received any communications from Canon and I had not received the adaptor.

I called them again. This time they had the order but nothing had happened to it, except that they charged my card for it. After a longish discussion, they finally admitted that my order was missing a check mark from a supervisor approving the complimentary expedited shipping. The supervisor that I talked to said that he approved it and the adaptor would ship the next day and I would receive it on Friday, Feb 5. Since then I have had a shipping notice from Canon that included a tracking number. At this point they say I will receive it on Friday. I am hopeful that this is true and I will finally be able to try out my R6.

If I could have ordered from B&H, Adorama or Amazon I know this would have been a much smoother process. I don't really understand why Canon stocks their own store before they stock their big retailers. From what I've seen, none of them have had adapters available throughout this mess.

What a time-consuming hassle. This kind of stuff should never happen. I guess sales is not Canon's forte.

I'm sure that Covid is negatively impacting how they operate but it seems to me that their online store software could use some attention.

Canon's website has been backordered for quite some time. Did it say IN STOCK when you ordered? Backordered items can still be ordered but Out of Stock items can not.

Also, you can simply check your order online for status. These are the statuses that show up in your order history:

  • Processing (?) - I don't remember the exact name when order is first placed. But your order is being "processed" and your card is temporarily charged to make sure there is no flags and card is active.
  • Backordered - exactly as it says. Your card would have the charge dropped (may not even see it at all since it wasn't fully charged to your card)
  • Inventory fulfilled - they are physically prepping your package and your card will actually be charged this time
  • Shipped - relax and wait patiently. When you get it, enjoy!

I've ordered new and refurbished items from Canon and for the most part, its been smooth and no issues (both through regular site and through EPP). But from what I've read and peoples experience, Canon's stock system is horrid. I would say its COVID related but this has been like this before the pandemic. Its not real-time, so you can place an item that says in stock but in reality, its out of stock/backordered. People have complained about Canon's refurb stock as well. If the item goes on backorder, you'd be waiting for weeks when Canon actually does not fulfill backordered refurbs. So when you call them to find out, they'll have no choice but to cancel your order.

Backordered items can ship within a few days or in a few weeks depending on replenishment. In stock items can ship the same day (depending what time it was ordered) or in a day or so (so as long no issues with credit card).

Yes, it said in stock every time I've looked since I first ordered. The standard adapter has not been in stock but the one with the control ring is and that is what I ordered.

Update: The package did not arrive on Friday as FedX promised. Yesterday the delivery estimate changed to today, Saturday. Saturday morning the delivery estimate changed to Monday. Very frustrating.
