. . .

Like I stated in the previous post, the two times we've been we had a rental car and I would never attempt it with that. The next time we go I would have to do an excursion. The rocks actually look kind of small. I've always thought they were like boulders. Are they small?

Nothing wrong with an excursion. They would take you to several different areas of the Valley and likely provide information and looks that you might not normally know were there.

The rocks range in size from around carry-on suitcase size to kitchen toaster size. The larger ones are deceptive and you would be unlikely to pick them up easily.

.... Got some cameras; got some glass ..... I just need one more of each.....

Yes, they're small. The biggest I've seen on the playa are about one cubic foot. Most are much smaller.

I'm not sure what you mean by an excursion. We always rent a Jeep from Farabee's. If you're good with a map, rent one from them. They're in Death Valley at Furnace Creek. I strongly recommend calling/emailing them to reserve one weeks/months before your trip... especially around the holidays.

I posted pics from our last trip at
https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1512522

This will give you an idea of the size of the rocks:

The rocks are way smaller than I thought. I will check out Farabee's the next time we go. Thanks for the tip. For some reason I thought I had read that there was a company that brought you out there in a jeep. I must have misunderstood the article.

I see the rocks are way smaller than I thought. Like I stated in my other post I thought I read an article that implied you could pay for someone to bring you out there in a jeep. I'd rather do the driving myself.

They have jeeps for rent at the Gas Station located by the resort. The only other options are to drive something suitable for back roads all the way from where you come from. Death Valley is a long way from anywhere..

There are five Dune Fields in Death Valley.

This is at Mesquite Dune, 0-dark-thirty, with a bit of moonlight kissing the tops.

Badwater Basin, the Death Valley Floor.

At 282 feet below Sea Level, it's one of the lowest and hottest places on earth.

I've been there twice and didn't get to see everything. I would have loved to have seen those kilns. Maybe next time.
