Just checked. It works for me. I recently had to update Chrome since I was having other issues, especially with streaming on Netflix. Maybe give that a shot?

Works for me, using firefox

Works for me with Chrome, both sides.

All also very interesting.

I have not updated Google Chrome anytime in the recent past. It has been a very long time since I have had to update Chrome.

Can you click on Page margins in FYEO and check what it is set to (as shown in the images below)?

I do not think that the forum software has been updated recently, so i do not think the problem is coming from any change at the server end.
For what it is worth, it is still working on both FF and Chrome here. Could some browser update have changed something? Cleared cookies?

If I press "Ctrl" button and scroll upwards with my mouse wheel, the contents of the FF window zoom in, and the margins disappear.

So, try pressing "Ctrl" and scrolling down and see if your margins come back?

(I believe ANY scale changing in your browser or in your OS could have effected this.)

I hope this helps.

So, try turning it off in that dialog by clicking on "no colors in the margin". Go to some other page Then come back to this page and set it back to default. See if the black strips re-appear on the sides.

One thing I should have mentioned is this: I used to have a black strip maybe 1/4 inch wide on both sides of the screen. I no longer have that black strip. That is generally where I would click to go to the top of the page.

As I told Levina I have made no changes to any settings here.

I do not remember ever seeing "go top" in the past years when I used that option.

Yes, you do need a strip, or margin for it to work. In my cases it's grey, due to the the I use. Zooming the contents of the window can make it go away.

Jake,

I am not aware of any browser updates or for that matter any Windows updates taking place on my computer recently, certainly not within the last few days.

I also try to keep my eye out for any updates that Pekka would have done. I was pretty sure he had not made any changes here either.

Thank you Jake for your input here. Greatly appreciated!

Another thing. Try maximizing your chrome window and see it that makes a difference.

Did you try "crtrl" and scrolling?

I did a small change to margin default sizes yesterday, it affects only display sizes below 1280. This was due to odd behaviour of IpadOS 14 zooming out vertical pages. I was able to fix that problem, so I can revert margin default setup soon.

Ah, it used to 1024 before, so less leeway now. (which is why I suggested maximizing the window)

Just one more note: I would love to make these changes affect only ipad (because ipad is Safari the one misbehaving) , but Apple has recently made that impossible, there is no way to tell the if device is a ipad any more. It was easy a year ago.

Jake,

You have edited your post here from when I first quoted you!! Glad I found that!! LOL

I never knew about using the CTRL button plus the scroll wheel. I DID know about and often use the CTRL button plus the + or - key on the number pad of my keyboard which do the same thing.

I found THAT to be my problem. I now have the black strip back and when I click on the black strip that it WILL take me to the top!!

However, now the black strip (for whatever reason) is wider than before maybe now 3/4 inch wide which also makes the text that I am reading much smaller.

My eyes are not as good as they were even 5 years ago which makes it harder to read! BUMMER!!!!!!

Thank you Pekka. That sounds like that probably changed my settings also. I do hope when you revert the margin default that will take the margins on my computer back to normal on my computer.

If you still have the feature, you can find it by moving the cursor slowly across the empty vertical strip at the right margin and watching for the hand with a label "go top."

I just now found out that it says "to editor top" if used when writing a post.

Now that I have found my problem, since Pekka said he changed the margin settings because of an iPad problem, when I do change my settings via the CTRL mouse wheel or CTRL +/- when I have the black strip (now much wider) and hold the mouse on the strip after a second or 2 I do see "go top" where I never saw it before since I clicked on the black strip immediately.
