Can I ask if this was imaged in a dark site?

I'm under bortle 8-9 skies, and I am having the hardest time pulling out those faint blues/colors with my Optolong L-Pro filter.

Even after soaking in hours of data, blues are still extremely hard for me to pull out.

Thanks!

That’s Very nice! Even on my iPad mini, the colors and detail is amazing.

Not too shabby for a camera with a retired chip, huh! :)

Yes, it was shot from a dark site. I'm guessing Bortle 2.

It read 21.33 on my SQM-L

Everybody loves ragging on the old 1600mm but that camera has more APOD's than any other camera out there.
I'll keep this camera till it dies on me.

I've got to ask... Lately, I've seen a ton of 1600 being put on the used market. How come so many people have recently decided to sell them?

Is there a new version out?

Yes, there's new model coming out called the 2600mm. But it's a bigger sensor, APS-C instead of Micro 4/3, so it's going to require larger, more expensive filters and a new filter wheel to go with it. On top of that, it's $1200 MORE than the 1600mm.

Lots of folks have that kind of money to upgrade but like I've been saying, the 1600 has and will treat me very well for quite a long time. If and when it breaks though, it's going to be a very expensive upgrade for new camera, filters, filter wheel.

I am still in my dSLR stage. Although, I may be hitting a thermal brick wall. Especially during those longer exposure time required for duo-narrowband filters.

I've started researching on dedicated cooled astro camera. For now, I am going to stick with OSC and not monochrome
- I'm broke
- My skies is too unpredictable to complete an actual project.

(though... monochrome makes the most sense because I live in San Francisco, bortle 8-9 skies)

Yeah, best to just save your pennies and hold out for a monochrome camera arms a good set of narrowband filters in my opinion.
Though a OSC with something like the Triad Quadband Ultra filter (Not cheap) can give you equally great results from Bortle 9 skies.

I'm using the L-eXtreme and it even works wonderfully under a 100% full moon.

Excellent! Work with what you have then, till you can afford a new model camera like the 2600mm.

I actually may have something in my back pocket... BUT, I'm one to squeeze every last drop out of my equipment until I upgrade. I don't like to "buy" progress, if you know what I mean. I'll upgrade once I've exhausted most viable avenues and I see nothing but a (in this case... thermal) wall. I'm quite stubborn like that. Haha
