I recently purchased a 2nd hand 5Dm4 which came with a battery grip. The seller only gave me 1 third party battery, so I purchased 4 STK batteries off Amazon. Everything worked well until this morning when I switched out for the freshly recharged set. Once inserted the camera did not recognize the left battery position. I switched batteries to see if the battery was bad, but the left slot still shows as empty. Battery Info menu showing no battery installed in the left position.

I also, took the Battery Grip off and inserted each battery into the camera directly, each working perfectly and registered in the battery menu.

Has anyone run into this situation where one of the battery grip slots is not recognized by the camera?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Clean the contacts on the grip with alcohol and then reinsert the grip into the camera and make sure it is tight. I have one grip that sometimes does this.

Turns out it's related to my Manfrotto RC plate with a Black Rapid attachment screw. When the plate is attached the left battery does not register. Plate removed, all good. Strange

Sounds like something is getting pulled out of shape when everything is tightened.

I think so too. I was looking for a new tripod/head anyway. A good excuse to upgrade!

... a new tripod/head ....

That can knock a hole into the check book. :)
