Ok, I purchased a EOS 1 N off ebay and noticed that everything worked flawlessly but I didn't see the red focus points.. but with the lens cap on I see a faint red blob. So I then noticed that I do not see the black focus squares in the view finder. So I take out the focus screen and it's just a clear mat finish with a circle in the middle.
So could this be the problem? Doesn't the focus screen need this to reflect the red led light? Thanks for the help

Don't know about the 1N but on other Canons, having the AF in continuous mode as opposed to 1-shot results in similar symptoms?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
