hey, Duckster!

I plan on spending the better part of April in the Tucson area. . It is a photography trip, with no objective other than taking nature and wildlife photos.

I have been doing a ton of research on southern Arizona, in preparation for this trip. . My research is aimed primarily at reptile and amphibian opportunities, but when researching these critters, I come across a lot of information about the habitat they live in. . This means that I am incidentally picking up a lot of info about places in that area like national parks and wildlife refuges - places that typically offer good photography opportunities for landscapes and so forth.

I will be glad to share anything I find with you, if I think you would be interested.

One place I know of right in Tucson is the Desert Museum:

The museum is open to the public, but there are a few COVID restrictions in place. You can find details on the website link that I posted above.

I'm not sure how many good photo opportunities are available right there on the grounds of the museum, but I figure that a visit to the museum will help me learn a lot about the Sonoran Desert, and that the more I know about the natural history of an area, the better photos I will be able to take while there.

Here's a link to a video someone made about a visit to the museum:

I plan to stay near the Buenos Aries National Wildlife Refuge, about an hour south of Tucson. . Here are a couple videos on the refuge:

.

Tom, you are correct about the museum. Due to other activities and poor planning on my part, we did not get to spend a lot of time in the museum itself. The area is very cool but definitely a morning/sunset place due to the harsh sun and lack of clouds. Now I have a much better idea of some places to take photos and the time that you would need to be in the area for better photos.

Some of the wildlife we did see was not particularly skittish. This was taken with a 24mm prime, uncropped.

I like how he/she is sittin' right there in front of the sign .... as if he/she is there to welcome visitors!

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

It was pretty surprising, I even turned around to get my camera out. Unfortunately at that time, all the telephoto lenses were in the back seat out of reach so I had to go with what was on the camera.

Interesting area. I need to plan better to be in some of these places when the light is more conducive to good photos

Make use of https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/usa/tucson (external link) for determining sunrise/sunset times. You can also use the tool for other locations by changing the city at the top right corner.

Thank you for that link! Since I have a friend that has a home in the area, I hope to be able to visit again.
