Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This week the theme is Around my Neighborhood. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Show us something Around your Neighborhood...

Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between Tuesday, after the new theme is posted and the following Monday by sunset (Whenever that is for you). Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e. embedding them) but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: IMAGE POSTING RULES
That's it! Have fun! As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.
An index to previous weeks can be found here: POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK INDEX

That's it!
Have fun!

I'll need to stretch my interpretation a bit this week. . Most of the wildlife photography I do is something that I travel quite far for. . So when I have local opportunities, it kinda feels like it's "in my neighborhood", even if it's a half hour drive from home. . There's so little wildlife or bird life in my actual neighborhood because most folks around here are so trigger-happy, and blast away at any critters or birds in their yards. . Around here, a tame squirrel will soon be a dead squirrel!

So, here are a couple pics that I took this afternoon at a spot on the river about 15 miles downstream from my place, which is practically in my neighborhood.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

very nice - is that car about to do a "step challenge"?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

.

Love the shot of the Red-crested pochards especially, Tom. Great low angle. And I love how you got both male and female in one shot.

Thank you, Levina!

They are actually Redheads, which are similar to your Red-crested Pochards.

These 'male and female in the same frame' shots are challenging - you probably noticed that the male is sharp, while the female is quite soft, even thought I stopped down to f8. . If a stopped down any further, then the background starts to lose its smoothness. . As with most photography, there are always compromises to be made.

I hope to get another opportunity with them again today!

A few years ago I noticed the yellow Rapeseed fields in France appeared very much like our wild mustard fields. They're a little different, but they are part of the same species.

Chow time in the back 40 this morning. Likely the most excitement in our neighborhood today.

Ah, they really do look very similar. Thanks for the education!

I hear you about the difficulty of getting both a male and female in focus within the frame, Tom. I tried several years ago from the deck of a houseboat, which is as low as I can get here at the canal. I gave up. So I solved it like this:

I spent a great many summers in France but never saw it. Of course I was rather young then and my interests lay elsewhere ... :p

But you sure live in a beautiful part of the world, Tim.
