I'm currently applying a camo lens coat to a super telephoto for wildlife and birds. Wanted others opinions on whether i should cover the zoom and focus rings? I've seen it done both ways but wanted to see what everyone thought.

Are you talking about the neoprene pre-cut by the company, LensCoat, or a camo skin that you can apply yourself? If latter, it depends on the lens and the overall look. In general, I would cover the zoom barrel as long as its smooth operation isn't hindered, but I wouldn't cover the focus or the zoom rings themselves.

Thanks. It's actually an internal zoom lens so the barrel doesn't change. I did cover the zoom and focus rings and went out and tried it tonight and seems to work just fine, so I'll probably leave it that way. Thanks.

I would cover it up any which way, with no hesitation.

My lenses now have the cut-off legs of a pair of kid's long johns over them, acting as "sleeves". . I went to the Good Will store and got a scroungy old pair of kids long underwear because it was camo, then cut a section out of each leg and stuck my 300-800 inside of one leg and my 100-400mm into the other. . These things haven't been off of the lenses for the past 3 years, because there is just no need to take 'em off. . I say just get any old thing and stick it over your lens and then leave it there for the rest of your life. . Seriously. . There's never any viable reason why one would need to access the controls or anything, because you can feel the turn rings through the cloth, and turn them just fine with the long john legs over them.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I went with a cheaper brand than lenscoat, but I wasn't quite as resourceful as you haha!

I went with a brand called ROLANPRO. I bought the cover on Amazon. Yes I am very happy with it. It's different than a lens coat, as it's not a neoprene type material. Instead it's almost like a burlap or denim style cover, and it doesn't stretch as far a neoprene does. This makes for a very tight fit while putting it on the lens, but it does fit really well on the 200-600. The only piece I don't like is the one closest to the camera where the OSS and focus controls are. it tends to slide just a bit while removing the lens, but it's overall been a non-issue.

I did have to return the first cover I bought because it came with only 2 pieces and I believe the total it's supposed to come with is 7. Some people say the instructions are a little iffy as they are not in english, but each piece is numbered so honestly anyone who can count can attach the cover.

Here is a link to it if you want to check it out: https://www.amazon.com …_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (external link)
