In preparation for an eventual purchase of a Canon R5, I have decided to upgrade my desktop PC to be able to handle the large files. It’s an easier justification right now since I have the R6 and like most folks am COVD restricted in my travels and opportunities to photograph. Since photography is a mental health break/ hobby for me, I use my computer for work and web surfing more than photo processing with Lightroom and Photoshop.

I view this computer and monitor purchase much like camera bodies and lenses. Buy a good monitor that can be used on future upgraded computers. I seem to be struggling between a Dell UltraSharp series and the BENQ SW series. My plan (and workspace) is to purchase either a 27 or 32 inch monitor. Due to cost, it will most likely be a 27” model if I convince myself to do this. I read concerns some place that the Dell series doesn't fully support Adobe RGB. In all honesty, I don’t know what that impact would be if I were to calibrate the monitor.

My questions are, does anyone here have experience with the BENQ SW27 monitor? If so, are you pleased with it? And are there any issues using it with general Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)? There shouldn't be, but just want to make sure.

Thanks,

Woody

Choice of size is very much driven by the pixel count of the monitor. 27" seems like the minimum size for 2560 x 1440 pixels, for example...it lets you leave the OS display setting at 100% text size. Since the SW27 has 3840 x 2160 4K, I would tend to go for the larger monitor, particularly if not using Apple OS or Windows 10.
The key is to make sure your monitor is IPS for best photographic editing purposes.

Thanks. I'm using Windows 10 Pro if that has an impact.

Windows 10 in general has better text magnification management than Wndows 7, so if you buy too small you can magnify the text to be more easily readable.

Okay, I use a SW271.

I'm very pleased with it. No issues with Win10 or current Microsoft Office apps.

You may have to fine tune the Luminance number used during calibration to your liking if you use Palette Master. Every recommendation I have seen says to lower the number to like 120 or 100 but that dims the brightness to much for my room. You see mine is at the stock L160 right now.

I like having the puck. With is I can instantly jump to Adobe RGB, sRGB, a personalized calibration, etc and the full menu offers numerous choices that change brightness, color....etc.

These are my settings.
