I was just wondering how many people have either sold or traded or gotten rid of their 5D4's, and have you gone with only the R5?

If I get one I am trying to decide whether to keep the 5D4 or not. For backup I have a 90D and the 7D2 (like the 90D for the extra reach and the 7D2 to use in the rain)

I have the R6 and still have the 5D4. I think even if I had the R5, I would keep the 5D4. It makes for a great backup camera and I have all EF/EFS lenses still. I see no reason to change those out as they work beautifully on the mirrorless as is.

I began my camera journey, the 2nd one anyway, with the Canon 5DM2, then 5DM3, the 5DM4, then R5. With each new (to me) model I gave my wife the older model so she and I could shoot together. We have then sold off the surplus lenses and bodies. So for this, most likely final body upgrade, I sold the 5DM3, and kept the M4. This is the first body I have kept though which I feel I would still like to use, since it has the touch screen controls. The others, once I had touch screen, were too frustrating to go back to.

I have never had a crop sensor body, but I do use the crop mode on the R5, so I would question the need to keep a crop body unless there was a second person involved, since the R5 has the best of both worlds. I have gone to using the R5 exclusively for my daily driver, but have used 2 bodies for video, so having the second camera on hand is useful to some ends.

I too have the R6 and recently sold my 5D4 that I got at launch. So I took quite the hit when I sold it. I had a great run with it but I do not need two Full-Frame cameras. Although I do miss its resolution. I still have my 7D2 and no plans of getting rid of it. My Sigma 150-600 C is pretty much glued to it.

I still have my M50 which gave me a good travel apsc with more resolution, and same burst rate while also being mirrorless and those advantages. I had the 7d2 since it launched but finally sold it, leaving me two FF and an apsc.

The R6 came out of our LLC funds so it was a write-off too, which made it a bit more palatable a purchase. The 5d4 is personal gear.

I want to personally thank all the new R5/R6 owners for driving down the price of used 5D4 bodies. Picked one up this weekend. It's a very nice camera, indeed. I don't think that's why mine was being sold, but it's why I got it for the price I paid.

Back in my newspaper days, I always carried 2 Nikon bodies; an F3 and an FM2. I've now got a 5D4 and a 6D2. Right in my comfort zone.

I sold my 5D3 after I got the R5.
Soon I plan to sell the 7DM2.

I started with the 5D as my first digital, then the 5d2. I skipped the 5d3 and got the 5d4. I sold both the 5D and 5d2.

Upon reflection I wish I had kept both, and I do plan to keep the 5d4 if for no other reason than to just have it. I have a fairly complete set of zeiss mf lenses that I will still use with it, and have no intention of getting rid of those either.

I do love the R5 so far and my reasons for keeping the other has nothing to do with performance.

In the film days I carried two F3HP's one with color and one with B&W. for FF I also have the 6D2 and 5D4, got the 6D2 as I wanted to try FF then a year later got a good deal on the 5D4 and like the AF better. I still have my Nikon's and my original Pentax as well as my instamatic and baby Brownie, I hate to get rid of cameras.

The R5 in crop mode from what I understand is 17mp. My 90D APS-C is 32mp, that is more than twice the resolution of the R5 Crop mode. What I understand is that sensor would be 80mp in FF.
I feel my 90D gives me more cropabltiy than 17 mp would, just thinking...

I still have a 5D4 and 1Dx2 combo. I am having a hard time deciding to get an R6 or R5 because these cameras I have work so well. Eye focus is something I dont have to have. I was ready to order and had to hold off. Had a session this weekend and after looking at the files I am like....exactly Why do I need a R6 or R5 ?

This has been a very difficult decision for me especially when I keep getting images like this. I love my 5D4 and 1Dx2 combo...but likely to get an R5 or R6 this summer. depends on how many weddings I book after bridal show season

And the other big decision factor is low low prices for 5D4's and 1Dx2's.....not going to give them away just to have a mirrorless....both are fairly reasonable counts considering I got them at release. I am going to get 7-8 on this 1Dx2

Eye AF is very nice, but ADDITIONALLY, having the ability to focus with long slow lenses and a TC (1.4 or 2) is pretty nice as well. Also there are some very good EFS lenses which can also now be used on FF. Finally 20fps is very useful in certain situations.

These were reasons why I picked up the R6.

I have been watching your agonizing, so have I been. My 5D4 and 90D work well for my birds, although I wish the 90D had the 5D4's ability to have two different AF types on the two back buttons, then it would be the cats meow. The main reasons I was thinking of the R5 is one the 800mm, lighter than my 150-600 with my 90D, the Animal Eye AF and the faster FPS than the 5D4. One thing I have heard is that if you are shooting birds that are very small in the frame and close to a cluttered background, which is really the majority of my shooting that even the R5 can struggle with it and if the entire bird is the size of one AF point I heard they eye AF won't pickup the eye since the whole bird fits in the af point (that happens more than I care to think about because of where I have to shoot) As I have shown before I hate to get rid of cameras, although I think I might be letting the 6D2 go since my son has my old 70D and 80D and isn't really interested in FF.
I have all my old film cameras including Bell&Howell 70KRM's and US Navy marked Canon AE1 and Topcon.

Welcome to my world :p

Its really been difficult. I prefer the R5. Crop mode and my existing lens with a 1.4TC lets me shoot anything and still have a file bigger than the R6......but its $3500, new cards and batteries....thats over 4K to have an R5....my 1Dx2 just does not miss. Guys are giving them away. We are talking less than $2200 with counts below 80K....I dont think the R5 can do anything any better than what I can do with my 1Dx2...especially the way I shoot and how I have it dialed in. The R6 for the price point is great, but crop mode is a very small file

I would be getting a mirrorless for wildlife work and using it to supplement my wedding work. The Craw files would be great for weddings and I see some advantages with eye focus and brides

Just lots to consider especially when these later models DSLR's work so well. Sensor performance is on par with the mirrorless with the exception being the R6....ISO performance is insane...I just cant seem to make a call....frustrated but then again...Im not
