Hello

I hope the business gurus and the creative minds on this forum can advise me on choosing an appropriate email address on a custom domain.

I was thinking on the lines of:

smile@domainname.ca
Sounds like either a photography related or dentistry related email

click@domainname.ca
I don’t know if people can make the connection of click to photography

I have seen some local photographers use hello@domain. Sounds friendly but generic

I had info@domain before. It sounded too corporate like.

I don’t want to use my name or initials in the email as my business name does not have my name in it.

Desire to learn; a camera & a few other things.

Assuming you are the photographer, could you use one of these?

photo@domainname.ca
pix@domainname.ca
pictures@domainname.ca
picturetaker@domainname.ca
camera@domainname.ca
image@domainname.ca

Given that, I can understand why you would not use your name in your photography business's email address ...... but why would you not use the name of your photography business in its own email address?

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

You're not alone.

Tom's response was classy and nice, not mean.

Business name is ELZA Studios and yes I am the photographer in the business. Business name does not indicate photography and that was intentional.

Then, for your business email address:

elzastudios@ _____ .com

Usually best to keep it easy and to-the-point, rather than "catchy".

I agree, using your first name as MBR stated is very personal and lets people know that their email is going directly to you, not to a generic, catch-all mailbox that may get looked at when someone gets time. I only use that email for actual clients or potential clients, nothing else. I really don't feel it matters whether or not your business name has your first or last name in it, none of my businesses have my name in them on purpose, I like the separation.

I also have a different email address for information requests and vendors that I do business (mharden@company.com) and another email address (mh33990@company.com) for general online info requests or other such instances where I am filling out a form that requires an email address such as information requests and such but I'm not sure I will be doing business with them. I can always change my email to a regular one if I decide to enter a long term relationship with them.

On my business card I have info@company.com listed but when I talk to a potential client I will write my personal email on the card and tell them that it is my personal email so they can contact me directly, adds a nice touch (in my humble opinion).

I even have an email address named spamsucks2@company.com I use for when I really don't want to give out a good email address but need to provide an email address for whatever reason. (spamsucks@company.com got retired because it was getting 30 - 40 spam emails a day from companies not related to anything I was interested in so you you know the address was being sold to other companies)

The different email addresses allow me to prioritize emails quickly and efficiently.

The fact that your business name does not indicate your real name is all the more reason to set your real name as your email address.

Major corporations do that all the time. Actually...every time. Every major corporation will have personalized email names to reach individuals in the corporation.

In most hosting accounts, you will be able to set several email addresses to go to the same email account. You may have, for instance, yourname@yourbusiness.com as well as info@yourbusiness.com, inquiry@yourbusiness.com, and complaints@yourbusiness.com....and all funneled into a single email account. Within your email application, you can funnel those further into different folders.

But IMO you always want to have yourname@yourbusiness because in a business such as ours, we are generally not trying to look like an impersonal commercial edifice. Most often we are our business. If you, indeed, are going to be the human being interfacing with the client, answering the phone, taking the pictures...you might as well put your name out there so that they will recognize who they've been doing business with.

Thank you all. I am sold on the idea of using name @company.com

I might even use just my initials as it would be an easy email address to remember even when shared verbally. the initials @ school name used to be a good conversation starter during my grad school.
