Granted, I may not know all the details, but I know a lot of other shooters who would not have been happy about this.

I can't even!!! ... Ugh.

When I have been a credentialed photographer, you have to wear a credential pass around your neck, very visible.

Yes. And he's clearly displaying it. If I was being paid to get the "money shot" and missed that opportunity because of a ill-informed, macho type, security guard I'd be pissed. It's bad enough when shooting football, having to deal with sideline hangers that have no purpose, stepping into your shots, but this had to be infuriating.

That is strange as it does appear to be clearly visible in the still photo of the event. That security guy doesn't have the right temperament for the trade, it would seem...

Who is at fault here.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER.

Why, COVID procedures. He was not credentialed for the floor access. Noticed no other photographers were on the floor at that time. He came out of the stands to try and get those shots. Different times mean different restrictions.

Have any of you shot college or higher sports this year? Then you might not realize the restrictions that are in place. High school might not have those same restrictions. Just watching the NFL and all photographers were in the stands at the games.

Sure, but there was absolutely no need to be that aggressive.

CC always welcome.

Be careful, the security guard was telling him to leave the court underneath the basket. Then he was on the far sideline when he was then placed into the choke hold. Being from the school does not give you extra privileges, especially at a neutral site game. He would be considered a member of the press and when you are that you should act accordingly.

Signed papers to actually be at the game which would have included not being on the floor, then security telling you to leave and not obeying, then you should be escorted from the scene with force.

No, you're wrong. The shooter was not at fault! That's the digital media director for St. Bonaventure’s athletic department. He was not part of the outside media, (a member of the press), relegated to the stands. He was specifically credentialed granting him permission to be on the court as a result of being a full-time employee of the university. He's part of the organization. That means he was tested regularly because he was a member of the team’s traveling party. He had been courtside, doing his job, ... acting accordingly. The school's staff had to step in and intervene. He was eventually able to resume his work, capturing the post game proceedings. Being from the school did give him extra privileges as was later confirmed. Security was ill-informed and acted inappropriately. Notice also, the shooter was fully masked while the overreacting security person was not.

Ans increasingly one of those stupid bring colored vest... argh.

But yes, that little dangly thing they give with the brightly colored paper attached... wear it... its not for your souvenir drawer. Even the big guys and the regulars get to wear them too. No one is exempt.

Looking at the image, he does have his credentials on... but that does not give him access to everywhere. Many venues have very strict rules on where you can shoot... and increasingly never on the court itself. Even after the buzzer. at Duke they have security rope off the court after... its more a suggestion because the rope isn't really going to stop a rush from the students. But player safety has become an issue... and this dude was probably hired to make sure played stay safe.

Photographers are invited guest, have no rights to shoot any event, and need to know the rules. If this guy was supposed to know those rules but did this anyway, it would explain the welcome he got as he entered the court. That jub shots going to have to wait until another day. He does not have the right to be on the court in a lot of places now days.

I did.... and I watched the video very carefully. You will notice that not even the coaching staff is going on to the floor, they are staying in the box and staying there. The videographer in the early frames to not go onto the floor. Additionally, this is not their home court, it was being played up in Dayton, which may explain why he didn't know the rules. I have shot literally hundreds of games at Cameron indoor... and in order to keep everyone off the floor after a game, they line the court with a rope to keep 'everyone' from entering the playing area. Did the photographer incurs the playing area... just a bit.. not by much. It was a bit of an over reaction. But he did cross beyond the end line. At Cameron, we have to stay behind the court end lines... and no where else. Same with Dean Smith... no photographers rushing the court allowed.

It was a bit over the top.... but neither you nor I know what was said to him before he went on to the court... but it is clear the security guy was saying something to him before he rushed the court.

Additionally... this was during Covid it appears where much tighter protocols are mandated.... they are lucky to have had fans there period. I am sure extrodianry rules were in place to keep people away from the players. You can see officials telling the players to not enter the stands.

Was there ever a follow up to this so more facts can be known...?

If you don’t choke out the photographer, the terrorists and virus win!
