Yesterday I found some skunk cabbage which was open enough to get shots of the flowers. Here is the first.

Interesting plant.
Never heard of it. But better informed now. I looked it up :-)
Nicely photographed.

Is it really as offensive as the Web says?

If the plant is broken (stepped on, leaves ripped, etc.), it does indeed smell very much like skunk. In early spring, trying to photograph them is somewhat hazardous as the emerging plants can be hidden under the leaf litter. But unprovoked, the plants are both attractive and unoffensive.

I suspect I can do without finding out what skunk smells like though. (stand back Pepe Le Pew!) :cry:
