I subscribe to Creative Cloud and I have never purchased LR standalone. Why would Adobe keep this old LR around?

Folks who own 6.0, own it as a stand-alone program not part of the subscription and do just fine with it.

Two reasons for me. First, I'm used to it, but more importantly I have Negative Lab Pro & it's a plug-in that only works on the classic version (for some reason).

Do you mean that it is still installed on your system? If so it is because old versions were left in place whenever you upgraded to a new version.... just in case there was an issue and you needed to downgrade.

Gear Canon 5DIII + Fuji X-T2 + lenses + a plastic widget I found in the camera box.

It just detects what’s on your system.

I removed Ver6, and Ver10 lost the connection to the latest catalog and acted like it had never been run but was easily fixed. I was hoping that removing Ver6 would fix the LR startup problem I have but it didn't help.
