We had another car show at the Sunshine, and this one that says "MISTRESS" on the California Black plates is a 1965 Pontiac GTO, complete with Tripower.

This shot was my favorite. It made me feel real sentimental, all of a sudden.
I hope you enoy this as much as I did. ;)

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

Nice catch RadAL. ;) Actually, Some of these ole "Goats" had a little something extra under the hood, and this elite group formed associations, or clubs for the GTO Tigers. Some people even had little Tigers tails sticking out of their trunks to indicate there was more here than met the casual eye.
These cars would generally have potent 421's or 428's in place of the usual 389 found under the hood of a GTO in those early years.

Thanks Frank. :D
To revise what I had said about the clubs, they were actually called The Royal Bobcats. Sorry for the mistake. The Tiger was in the tank, and the tires were Uniroyal Tiger Paws. Hey, That was a long time ago.

the "tiger" thing came from the ad capaign of the day. There were a few "Tiger Edition" 65 GTO's released as promotional vehicles but thats it.

The ad capaign ended in 1966. Here's a little snippit on it.

From GTO 1964-1967 (Motorbooks International Muscle Car Color History)
by Paul Zazarine (Paperback - September 1991)

By the middle of the 1966 model year, James Roche, the chairman of General Motors, had already been doing a slow burn about Pontiac's GeeTO Tiger and Wide Track Tigers advertising campaign. He simply didn't like it, and every magazine ad he read and every TV spot he watched just added to his anger.

Unaware of Roche's displeasure with the Tiger, the people at Pontiac were delighted with the success of the campaign. "We had taken the Tiger theme, which came right out of the GTO, and spread it over the whole line," [Jim] Wangers recounted. "All of the Pontiacs were promoted around the Tiger image. That was when we really reached our maturity in terms of recognizing the value of the GTO as an entire image builder for the division."

Unfortunately, that argument failed to cut any wood with Roche: he ordered the Tiger be returned to its cage. Pontiac needed to find a new theme for 1967.

Its a nice car, and I love the tri-power setup (when its working).

Eric, Thanks for the info and snippit. I LOVE muscle car history, and could discuss it all day.
About the tripower working, My brother and I campaigned a 64 GTO with tripower, 389, and a 4 spd while hitting the usual hot spots in Vanuys CA during the mid 70's. The tripower linkage was progressive (if you want to call it that). It would cruise around on the center 2 BBL carb all the way up to around 7/8ths throttle, and when that last little bit was shoved to the floor, all three snapped wide open.

thats the first time I saw a 'sticker' positioned like that

must be why the car is named 'mistress' .. the sticker is hidden
(most of the time)

the owner must love opening the boot to show it off to it's full

Not the "boot" Marie! It's the "bonnett"! Or do things work differently in Ireland? :D

LOL, Right you are Frank. That would be the "Bonnet".
Marie, That's no sticker or decal, that was done with paint. ;)
Funny thing was, the owner and car left early. Too bad, We were discussing it's taking home the trophy for first place.

I've been trying to track this car down, and have found a couple people that know where he lives. I will certainly tell him if or when I find him.
He might also have taken another trophy for best paint. Robert was very impressed with its "Perfect" Black paint job. ;)
