I watch a lot of old movies & the boy in the middle just remined me of every "street" kid portrayed in those movies. "Our Gang", comes to mind. Or "Boy's Town".

It's not a photo, but it goes with your comment.

Now back to photography.

Technical doesn't fit with the thread as it's chock full of my relatives, I've posted it elsewhere here. It came out pretty good considering was my scan of a copy, we don't know what happened to the original. Recently inherited the family stash of photos & this is the very oldest, though there are many cool others.

This was taken in 1898. That's written on the back in very faded pencil, along with the names of all who are in it. "Harvesting sorghum" was also written on the back. My grandfather is the child in the highchair in the center of the photo.

I had a good day at 2 places I've never been to before. I found a Polaroid Land camera to have fun with and attempt to modify to shoot 120. I found a Yashica p&s that had a mostly shot roll of Fuji film in it for $5. I bought it just to develop the roll, but I removed the AA batteries, cleaned very bad corrosion, and added to fresh AAs. It fired up & I rewound the film. 35mm is trickier than 120 because opening the back almost always destroys the film, but we'll see what happens. Got a working p&s for $5. Also got a Kodak Target Six-16. I already have one that I've torn down & cleaned but this one had film, it was $15. Once home, I started winding the film looking for which number would pop up in the window. A number never came, after some rolling it was at the end. So now I have an exposed roll of 116 Ansco "Plenachrome", which is new to me. I googled it and really didn't find much. I've found some film "databases" while searching other films but not much on this one. Any info would be cool. I'll probably attempt the developing tomorrow. I'll let you know if anything is found. If nothing else, I post a shot of the cameras & the old 116 film.

Here is a photo of yesterday's score (the Polaroid is already taken apart). I like the idea of having a very tiny p&s to throw in my pocket. Not something I'd seek, but a working camera for 5 bucks when you just want the film is a bonus. I will attempt to develop the 116 film today but if history has taught me anything it will probably take a month for it to be flat enough to scan.

The 35mm film yielded nothing but I expected that. I fought with the 116 film as it was quite curly. It didn't take long to discover that 116 film was several mm wider than 120 and it's not going to fit on my reel.vmad Now have a rolled piece of film in my tank because it was the fastest way to protect it. I guess I'll look around to see if someone can develop it if so, I'll try to reroll the backing paper & send it.

Is there a way you can make your own spool?
Cut an existing spool in 2 and shove an extension piece up the middle and pull back to correct length?
Or use existing ends and find piece of tubing to cut to length and attach ends?

Or 3D print one?

I started thinking last night about a solution. I thought about not putting the spool completely together as there seems to be about a 1/4-inch overlap. I also thought about cutting a piece of plastic tubing and adding as a spacer. 3D printed reel would be awesome, but I don't have a printer. You are on to something about the extension piece. Looks like a project for next weekend.

I cut a small piece of the film, so I have the exact size I need. The film is very stiff, rigid, almost plastic like. Oh, and it's RED??? Anyhow, started looking at pvc pipe (plastic) as a spacer. I think I have the space issue solved just now how do I ratchet film on the reel? If I put the 2 pieces of reel together enough that the grooves line up, it's too small for the film. If I place a spacer in between the 2 pieces of reel, the grooves don't line up and it won't ratchet. So, getting it on the reel is the next challenge.

They sure are nicely dressed for the work they are doing. I sure do love me some sorghum and biscuits!

Can you elaborate on sorghum and biscuits please.
Sorghum as in syrup or butter??
Not heard that before
