This shot was taken in darkness with a camera flash.

The light tower is as expected, the background looks ok, but those HD bucks are orange with white lettering?

Any idea what caused that color change to happen?

That is odd the buckets would come out green when they are orange colored.

Yet a plug or something is orange near one of the home depot bucket. I'd suggest the light from the flash was missing that color except that I read everything else has the expected colors, so that hypothesis doesn't make sense.

It'd be worth exposing a bucket alone and see what happens. Odd.

Cool how orange became dark green. What does the image look like if you use the white balance selector in PS or LR on the white lettering of the HD bucket?

Back in the color negative days, overexposure could reverse colors like that.

What colors are the slatboard walls supposed to be? Would you be able to share the raw so we can see that vs a generated jpg?

Does your camera have automatic red-eye reduction enabled? It makes sense given that you were shooting with flash and the buckets were bright orange-red and saturated compared to everything else - your camera probably does not look for facial features when applying the selective color correction for red-eye reduction, it is probably just looking for heavily saturated red and adding the opposite (green) and/or desaturating and darkening it.

That's my guess as well. If you look closely, you can see a hint of orange around the fringes and lettering. Seeing a full size image or the raw file with histo would help.

Now with all this Eye AF tech, red eye reduction could be made MUCH smarter!

Yes, I was just thinking ahead... RF and M mounts. :)

For this situation, without a raw, it is going to be hard to go any further here.

It has to do. with the pigments used to make Home Depot orange, and the wavelengths of light they absorb or reflect. Normal daylight is different from flash.
