I wish I's waited before shelling out on an r5.

is the R5 really that bad?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

The R5 automatically and instantly turns into crap once a new camera such as this R3 is announced or released. That's how it works. :)

I'm not suggesting the R5 is crap, that's just a knee jerk reaction on your part.

I wanted a camera with built in grip, higher battery capacity and 1 series environmental sealing (as per R3).

Canon are not very up front about future products and, as with most of us, could see the EF line coming to an end.
So rather than wait until my 1dx3 and lenses became worthless I switched to an R5 as it was the best canon had at the time.

But, will it be ready for the Olympics in 100 days time?

I have the advantage that I seem to be unable to sell old stuff, just because I have used it for a while. So remaining value is just theoretical for me. I never realize it. Thus I have no rush to buy anything new just to get rid of the old stuff, since I know the old stuff will remain to augment the new.

As long as the house is big enough, this strategy works.

you had to know this was coming though. They waited for a long time to get into the mirrorless end of the pool fully. With all the lenses coming out at a regular clip, it was also a good indicator the pro model was coming.

Good news is, the R5 is still new, so you should be able to get a decent price for it.

Well, inasmuch as there was never a 3-level DSLR, the reveal of a 3-level mirrorless is a surprise.

However, if anyone really needed a superior camera to the 5-level mirrorless, the knowledge that a 1-level mirrorless was on the way provided a target.

We haven't seen a price released for that 1-series mirrorless, though. I suspect that if Canon has calculated there is room for a 3-series, the step between the R5 and the R1 must be a very high step indeed.

It will never be as good as my EOS 3 although I do believe it will relaunch the EOS 3's "Eye Control" focus system

I can't wait to get my hands on one. The EOS 3 was the best camera I've ever had.

They said it would be in between the R5 and the 1DX III, so can we expect the price to be between the current price of those two? What are people's thoughts on pixel count?

This shows how slow POTN has become. :(

In the past, big releases would have been met with duplicate threads, etc. The news is over 24 hours old at this point, and we haven't even hit 2 pages yet in this one thread.

I need to spend time reading the press releases and watching the speculation videos. Has there been any mention of MPs? I assume cost will be north of the R5.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

No mention of costs, resolution, video capabilties, etc. Just 30fps in ES, faster readout and less ES effects on images, stacked sensor and an improved deep learning library of other objects and that it bridges the R5 and 1DX3.
