This video was taken by me about 20 years back. Not just flying, but some of the work our club, South Cotswold Soaring Association, did on one of our flying slopes. It's Rodborough Common and owned by the National Trust. We were there just last Sunday.

The mass, 4 models, at 2 mins 16 seconds was the launch for our annual Boxing Day pylon race. For non British Boxing Day is the 26th December. Look it up ;-)a Good fun and run as 10 laps over a 100 yard course up and down the slope. That was on Frocester Hill, south westerlies. Complete with a cup :-P

This is just a clip from about 40 minutes of our antics from then.

Why tissue & dope instead of silk & dope? I was very big on silk back in that era. I've never heard of the new covering you named but it may be marketed under another name here in North America. BoT is a very famous glider & I considered getting one more than once. I wasn't going to add any photos of my Valkyrie here but it fits the theme & I have officially completed it as of yesterday. (the transparent red covering is from Hobbyking.)

Thank You. I had hoped to get the maiden flight done over the weekend but the wind gods forbid it. Too windy for the Jets at our field too.

That's one of the beauties of 'sloping'. If you can stand up in it there's a model that will fly in it ;-)a But better to wait for the right conditions for an 'old timer'. It would be such a shame to spoil it for not waiting. Good luck with your next try.

One of the people following my build thread on RC Canada calculated all the info & thinks it will fly at about 12 MPH / 20 KPH. That would see it loosing the battle to the current winds we have & it would be going backwards. Waiting for better conditions is top priority,

John, I finally had the time to watch that video. Not the nicest weather to fly was it? I was surprised to see them fly in a fog the way they did.

On Sunday a friend piloted my Valkyrie for it's maiden flight and later he did another flight for drone video to go with the ground based one.

The Video is here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6KM2raVqhc (external link)

I was shooting photos which had been my intention & had another friend also shooting stills.

A bit of fun sloping on Haresfield yesterday morning with my Oblix

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzK0vpPxM0Q (external link)

I got the foam wings and centre section at one of our club auctions about 25 years ago and finally got around to sticking it together. Haresfield is an 'interesting' place to on the small slope we were flying from and the trees have a nasty habit of snatching unsuspecting models out of the air!

I thought I'd revive this thread with a few. This particular plane "was" mine, but as I enjoyed watching it fly and photographing it more than actually flying it, I gave it to a good friend Tom Cooper. He flew them a lot!

Here is a friend, prepping his little pusher plane for a flight at Bennett Field in Las Vegas a few years back. This was a really nice F-4. Since the event was exclusively for electric (battery) powered planes note the pusher prop configuration. Hardly noticeable in the air, especially at speed!

Down and dirty for landing These are not fabulous photographs. Lots of error, But these were taken in 2010 using a very new Canon EOS. I was totally lost for settings, shutter speeds and just did the best I thought I could. My ignorance made me believe the camers would take better pictures for me! LOL! I had been using small pocket cameras up to this. Bought the Canon a couple of weeks prior to attending this event.

This was a museum quality scale rendition of an FE8. When I first sae this plane on a stand in the pit area I thought it was display only as I could not imagine anyone risking such a well detailed and immaculate plane by wanting to fly it.

Hillbille that F 4 must be very light because that's not a very big motor out back. They don't fly all that well either so it may have been a handful back then. Receivers with built in Gyros are popular now & would help out a whole bunch on an F 4. When I started shooting RC in 2008 I was in a similar situation re what settings to use but I did OK because I had that wonderful LCD to check results & re adjust as needed. These were from the very first event I shot & fortunately one of the organizers & I hit it off so I sent him a link to my days shooting results. He was impressed enough to invite me back to a couple of other events which ultimately grew into shooting most local events 2 or 3 years later. The organizer was flying the gas turbine in the second photo and when he mentioned he had one I was absolutely blown away. I had no idea such things existed.
