It's one of Canon's finest. I'm jealous. Enjoy it.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

POTN has a search function, it's your best bet.

No doubt, as it's a high $$$$$ item that isn't mass purchased, and the few owners that are out there typically keep them long term (except for one I know, personally :-D ). In the near term, I feel that there is hope for you, as I'm predicting that with the debut of the R3/R1 and the RF 600, we'll see a bit of a sell-off as the hold outs start moving over to mirrorless, and subsequently sell their EF 600s in order to switch over to the RF lenses for full compatibility.

One nice feature is that focus-by-wire, which allows three choices of focus ring speed, makes the lens easier to roughly pre-focus with an AF system that parks or drags when the subject starts out way OOF, as happens with mirrorless cameras.

One thing that I don't like about using my 400/4DO II IS with my R5 is that it takes several twists of the wrist to roughly pre-focus when subject focus distance starts out way off, because the lens is designed with the assumption that manual focus should be smooth and fine.

I just got it.

it sounds kind of strange when moving/lifting the lens. Like there is a wooden ball or likewise inside. It that normal? (Haven't tried it out yet on my R5, but will do as soon as I can)

Make sure that the IS unit is "parked" when turning the camera off, or else the components will move around, which can cause the sound you hear. To park IS: turn the IS switch to “Off” on the lens, before you turn camera off.

I think you are correct...at least I hope so! I am looking for a 600 F4L IS III in pristine condition to pair with my Leica SL2 via an MC-21 adapter. Very hard to justify the new price for one, especially for a speciality lens that will soon be discontinued...

Did you ever get the noise sorted or did it have to go in for service? Thoughts after using it for a while?
