One nice feature is that focus-by-wire, which allows three choices of focus ring speed, makes the lens easier to roughly pre-focus with an AF system that parks or drags when the subject starts out way OOF, as happens with mirrorless cameras.

Like there is a wooden ball or likewise inside. It that normal? (Haven't tried it out yet on my R5, but will do as soon as I can) Make sure that the IS unit is "parked" when turning the camera off, or else the components will move around, which can cause the sound you hear. To park IS: turn the IS switch to “Off” on the lens, before you turn camera off.

I am looking for a 600 F4L IS III in pristine condition to pair with my Leica SL2 via an MC-21 adapter. Very hard to justify the new price for one, especially for a speciality lens that will soon be discontinued...
