Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This week the theme is Scavenger Hunt. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Show us any 2 of these topics to complete the Scavenger Hunt. (you can do as many as you like ;) )

1. Something Historic

2. A Candid

3. Main Street

4. City Plaque

5. Something for which your town/city is known

Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between Tuesday, after the new theme is posted and the following Monday by sunset (Whenever that is for you). Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e. embedding them) but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: IMAGE POSTING RULES
That's it! Have fun! As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.
An index to previous weeks can be found here: POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK INDEX

That's it!
Have fun!

I live in a rural area equidistant from several towns, so I plan to interpret your town/city quite freely.

About 10 miles in one direction is the main street in downtown Petaluma.

One of the many things Petaluma is known for is world champion wrist wrestling.

For scavenger hunt scoring purposes, does this count as a twofer since it also is a city plaque?

joayne, I have difficulty reconciling this week's topic with a wish to stay vague about my location. Asking for only two of the five choices is generous, but most of them call for such specificity. Take #4, City Plaque. An inscription would look like this after I got through with it:

On this spot, in the year 18___,
the famed explorer Reverend Dr. _____ _________
established the first school in what was to become the City of __________.
Ten years later, his institution merged with [Illegible]
to form the ______ College of ________.
The original building was destroyed by fire in 1927
and replaced in 1934 under the direction of Mayor ____ P. ______.

Marker placed in 1992
by the ______ Historical Society

Tim got by nicely by not living in a city.

What I've got so far is a couple of things my region is known for.

1. Being a hotbed of opinions and no shortage of people to display theirs.

2. Plentiful murals, some celebrating the ethnicities common in their neighborhoods. This is just part of a very long mural.

My city's main street.
Two views from almost the same spot.
North to the mountains.

North of Petaluma we have Santa Rosa which has no main street, but 4th Street is the main business area.

This is a part of the Wallace Shipyards. A very big piece of
the history of our city. It started in 1906 and launched over
450 ships here including the St. Roch which was the first ship
to navigate the Northwest Passage in both directions. A lot of
them would have been launched down this ramp over these
large timbers that were coatedwith a special grease into the inlet.

Very nice. A history find, for sure.

You contributed by setting the topic.

I don't have much time, either. If I'd had a candid, I would have posted it. I rarely get one I like. It has to go beyond just a shot of people doing nothing interesting.

I 2nd that, I was looking forward to the theme this week but had less time than the weeks before. Had a couple places in mind close to home that others may have enjoyed seeing or looking up the history on, maybe another day,:-)
