Although my Great Pyrenees is just a six months old puppy - she can (at about fifty pounds) seem quite formidable to any intruder...

Just wait till she attains her full 90-100 pound size. The GP is known as a "safe" guardian dog who will generally use their large size and imposing demeanor to warn off intruders, rather than attacking the intruder. However, they are fully capable of taking care of intruders like a coyote. An adult Great Pyrenees could break the back of a coyote with one bite - if the coyote were foolish enough to challenge the Pyr...

Her heavy mane of hair serves to protect her neck from the bites of wolves. Of course, there are no wolves in my neighborhood :p
