OK, this post is probably very unusual, but I have an unusual problem. In my lab, we have a Leica inverted microscope for viewing live cells that has a Leica MC120 HD digital camera attached to it (see photo). Unfortunately, Leica's really terrible software (Windows 10) is only good for taking still images or up to 1 min videos. What I need is the ability to take images at variable intervals, such as 1 per minute, for many hours (up to 8 hours or so). With my Rebel T7i that I had attached to my old Zeiss microscope, Canon included software that could do this for me; however, I'm sure it won't work with this Leica camera. So, does anyone know of a software package that might work with this camera?

Alternatively, I could buy a small mirrorless camera (e.g., Canon M200) and see if I can find a mount adapter that would connect it to the Leica microscope. Of course, that's contingent upon the camera software having intervalometer abilities.

Thoughts or suggestions?

TIA.

My lab uses a Hamamatsu Orca-ER and Mac computers, but two thoughts that might help:

We used Micro Manager for a brief time, which runs on ImageJ and is open source. We weren't super happy with its usability for our uses, but it might do what you need, and since it's free, it probably doesn't hurt to try: https://micro-manager.org (external link).

Eventually we got set up with iVision, which is a mac version of BD's IPLab software. We did have to pay for it, but it's cheaper than packages I've used in the past. We actually worked directly with the founder of the company, who was super responsive, taught us how to use it, and let us demo it for a while before we committed. We've been using it for a few years and are quite happy with it. https://www.biovis.com/software.html (external link)

Thanks very much, I'll give that a look-over. At first glance, it looks like it has intervalometer built-in so hopefully it works with the camera. The microscope is listed (DMi1) but not the camera that's attached to it.

I was going to suggest ImageJ as well, here's some plug-ins: https://imagej.nih.gov/ij/plugins/index.html (external link)
You might look at FIJI, built on ImageJ : https://fiji.sc/ (external link) although I didn't see your camera listed in either.
If you have the driver documentation, you could have a student write a program. Once a minute should be doable with Visual Basic, especially since your aren't controlling monochromators or performing image math in real time. The driver should expose an ActiveX, COM, API or DLL interface to allow another program to control the camera.

Any luck? Some Leica cameras are listed.

No, no luck. I tried all the Leica cameras on their list and none seem to work. I suspect this camera is a third-party camera, but I'm not sure how to find identifying information on what it is. I may have to connect it to my Mac to see if I can retrieve the information with it.
