For me life is too short so when I want a new toy of sorts, at that decision point, I start my quest for the best deal, and I average about 30 days to a purchase as I search through forums and sites.

That is one of the primary reasons why I always buy used bodies, and usually wait until I can get one for less than 50% of the original price. . No matter how badly I need something, it kills me to buy something, and then a year later see how much I could have saved if I had just waited another year. . So I wait until the used prices level off a bit, and then buy. . The 36% annual depreciation affected most models, with only the 5Dn as the exception series. I used to track the 1Ds series, and saw ownership value at year 0 = $8000, year 2 = $4000, year 4 = $2000, year 6 = $1000 over and over for each of the models with $8000 MSRP. I had to shake my head in wonderment at what pros (and well-off enthusiasts) were eating in lost value, in selling the old version to buy the new version during that first decade of dSLR history. The same occurred with the 1D3 bodies I had. You just have to watch for the best deals, used or otherwise, to break this general depreciation rule. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

I think I have lost substantial money on my 7D2, and will again on my 5D4 when I decide to sell it, in almost all other cases, I broke basically even or even came ahead, like the EOS R, where I made $300 after owning it for about 5 months. I bought my most recent car as used CPO. Original owner paid (no tax, registration in this) $42k, and turned it in at end of 3 year lease, I bought it for $30k. That represented just about 9.5% compounded annual depreciation for a car but un recent years the rate of depreciation has declined. You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! TeamSpeed 01010100 01010011 More info Post edited over 2 years ago by TeamSpeed. | We recently picked up a 2020 Denali GMC Sierra with 9K miles on the clock for about $20K off the sticker. It will hold its value very well I hope from this point forward. Trucks are very expensive and we even have one of the premier GM truck plants here, one would think they would have a "seconds" annual sale like other factories where trucks not cutting the QA inspection are sold at low prices. When y'all were talking cheap cars, I was picturing sub-1K. Until I hit my 50s, I never owned a car manufactured in the same decade I drove it in. I usually pick up a beater for a couple hundred, rarely over 1K, drive it until it does or needs an oil change, then sell it. They usually lasted me 2~4 years before needing replacing. I do my own maintenance if cheap enough and as a result, I've owned somewhere around 20 cars over my lifetime. (Never really counted them all). Right now I have a 2003 E150 conversion and a 2008 G6, both still running strong. My favorite was a 66/67 Caddie Sevil I picked up for 1k. Gorgeous car. That was followed by a Dodge Monaco. (can't remember the year but I think it was a 72 with the hide away headlights) Not sure why, but call me JJ.
