What a yawn...I guess all that swooping during hot, humid weather can tire out a Barn Swallow.
That's a beauty. They are very attractive birds with and without the beaks open.
I once watched a Fantail sitting and flicking its head about when suddenly it plucked a flying insect clean out of the air. No movement off its perch
Probably not what's happening here?
Thanks so much, Richard! Watching your Fantail must have been amazing. I think the Barn was just tired as it stayed for a long time on its perch, preening mostly. I was shooting nonstop when it opened its mouth and probably would have got an insect...man, what a shot that would have been!





I'm sure the food had nothing to do with it.
