Nice shot. It's a possibly an American Golden Plover, a spring migrant in Florida. Otherwise a Black-bellied Plover, a winter resident. Dark crown looks good for golden, but the bill looks bit stout. It's just starting to change into breeding plumage, or it would be much easier to ID.

Least sandpipers are much smaller, the smallest shorebird you're likely to see in the US, and have yellow legs.

Thanks for the input. I think you're right. I just finished reading about the adult, nonbreeding, black-bellied plover and the adult, nonbreeding, American golden plover and the one thing that really separates the two is the eyebrow. The nonbreeding American golden plover has a more distinct eyebrow, and this plover has just that.

After looking some more I'm leaning to Black-bellied, for several reasons.

The eyebrow is useful in separating the two in winter plumage, but not necessarily while they are molting in the spring. If you look at photos in Cornell's Macaulay Library you can see many shots of BBPL with white starting over the eye. https://search.macaulaylibrary.org/catalog?taxonCode=bkbplo (external link)

Your bird has a relatively stout bill. Golden bills are typically a bit shorter and thinner.

Your bird still has a clean belly. Winter Golden has dingier underparts. Both would be turning black now.

In flight or with the wings raised it's very easy to tell. Black-bellied have a whitish rump and tail, and the base of the underwing is black (black "armpits). Goldens have dark rumps and tails, and the underwing is all gray.

And when all else fails, go with the odds. Black-bellied is common all along the Gulf Coast. American Golden-Plover only makes brief stops while migrating from South America to the Arctic tundra.

Shorebirds are fun! I think you might already be hooked.
