Correct, and nicely photographed. The large size and long, downward curved bill are the keys. This particular curlew is called a WhimbrelI, but I don't know why "curlew" isn't part of the name. You've probably got Long-billed Curlews around somewhere as well.
Thank you. I found out that it is a whimbrel but are you saying it's part of the curlew family? I'll have to research a bit.
Edit: Ok, I just found out that there are eight species of curlew, and the whimbrel is one of them.
