Gorgeous even light on the drake! This species is best photographed when out of the water, standing up, as such positioning showcases the yellow flanks to advantage.

Thank you, yes they are beautiful ducks.

Blackburnian Warbler, photographed on Sunday 6-4-2023

I was so happy to find a cooperative Blackburnian Warbler! . This is a species that had eluded my efforts for years, always staying too high up in the trees to get good images. . But this one male changed all that and readily came down to ground level time and again.

I could easily go the rest of my life without ever having another Blackburnian come down to eye level at frame-filling range, so I made the most of the opportunity by spending 2 hours with him on Saturday afternoon and then making another trip back up to the Poconos early the next morning, and spent another 6 hours trying to get the best shots of him that I could. . Normally I want something more creative and complex than "just a bird on a stick" type of image, but with this species I am thrilled to get this.

The background is Hemlock foliage, with the brighter green spots being newly emergent growth at the tips of the branchlets ..... this will darken up over the next two to three months and be deep dark green by time autumn rolls around.

Next up is the Cerulean Warbler, but I could very easily go the rest of my life without ever getting a quality close-up eye level image of that species.

What species is this?

I especially love the clean natural distraction-free background - looks like you must have truly filled the frame instead of relying on heavy cropping, which is to be commended. . Wonderful job! . Would love for you to say what species this is and to provide some background info about the time you spent photographing this bird.

A serene mallard. Looks a bit pleased with himself, too. (Lots of wee ducklings about.)
