What species is this?

I especially love the clean natural distraction-free background - looks like you must have truly filled the frame instead of relying on heavy cropping, which is to be commended. . Wonderful job! . Would love for you to say what species this is and to provide some background info about the time you spent photographing this bird.

.

Thanks a lot, Tom! It's an Indian Silverbill. I'm sometimes lazy to indicate the name in the posts, but all my photos on Flickr are annotated and geotagged. You can check where the photo was taken and what species it is.

Well, it was still some cropping. This particular photo was made from a car window. I noticed a small flock of silverbills when I was scouting in the area that dried out after it was covered with water for a while. Grass like this is very rare here, so when you find it, there are always some birds there.

I found silverbills near that place last year and already posted some pics here.

They are cute little fellas, curious and vocal. Fun to watch and photograph.

Fantastic close-up shots of the Sarus Crane, Canonised! Amazing sharpness and detail.

Fantastic 4 shot series of the White-eared bulbul, Cog! Very nicely photographed!

Gorgeous Wood Duck shot, fotoi! Terrific color!

Kirk...both of these white morph reddish egret are incredibly nice. Hard to pick a favorite, but I'm going with the cropped shot.

Nice crow shot, Kirk. Always tough to get detail out of these all black birds.

Wonderful capture of this beauty, Steve!

Great shot of the Mockingbird, Gene!

Thank you so much. I have to say I am extremely pleased with the R7 because it really gave my EF100-400mk2 a new lease of life. With the crop factor and much better files than my old 7D2, I am so very pleased with the set up. Mind you, the DXO Raw processing is also wonderful in helping manage the noise. But overall the combo has renewed my desire to return to birding.

Rainbow Bee-Eater (Merops ornatus)... another one of the colourful locals. This is a fairly heavy crop of an RF 100-400 image.

The delightful Eastern Yellow Robin is a bold and inquisitive inhabitant of the rainforest in the Lamington National Park, and will often flutter down as you pass by.:-)

#2 is a full res 1600x1600 pixel crop the original image.

Cheers

That has turned out very nicely Stephen, as these birds tend to perch quite high up in the canopy.:-)

Brown Falcon ~ Falco berigora
an awesome encounter with this one today.
I was driving along our driveway and saw a commotion in the adjacent paddock
This falcon and about 10 magpies were having a standoff.
It went on for about 10 minutes then the magpies sent it packing in full chase

Such majestic birds
