I’m guessing you are using a 1.4 extender. May I ask which version and are you pleased with the performance? Also, does the extender affect your autofocus area?

Yes, version III. I almost never take the 1.4 off anymore. The bare lens is a bit better if you can get close, but I'm a birder with a camera and all my shooting is run (well, walk) and gun and cropping comes with the territory. That cactus wren shot is a 6MP crop, bu I had good light. No reduction of focus area. Hope that helps.
