Gilded Flicker...If you look closely at her left leg you'll see she's lost a talon somewhere during her life. The stub seems to have healed and she appears to have no trouble flying or otherwise getting around.

Terrific shot, Tom! In the animal world we see some injuries that would seemingly be very difficult for wildlife to overcome and survive. Yet they do. I really admire their "never say die attitude."

Woke up on this very cold morning (18f) to find a back yard full of robins! We haven't had any "little birds" around since October.

These two shots are super, flurp! Pheasants around here aren't at all easy to get close to. Really nice work.

Nice Mike, they look so close to the Eastern one we have here. They are my favorite of the song birds that visit our yard. They have such a calming sound.

Thank you Rob. I wish I could hear their songs. I lost so much of my hearing at a fairly young age, and unfortunately I'm unable to hear the songs of most birds. I never imagined hearing loss would be such a big deal.

avondale87 wrote in post #19349194 (external link)
You've captured that very nicely Mike
Lovely composition.
Fascinating colours that you've bought out so well.
Doesn't look much difference between this and Rob's magnificent Eastern as he also says.

Your very thoughtful, kind compliment is truly appreciated, Richard. I truly thank you.
Our eastern and western bluebirds are quite similar in appearance. We also have a mountain bluebird in the western US that is more noticeably different from its western and eastern cousins.

Many thanks, and much appreciated, Joe.

Spot on, Mike! Lovely pose, terrific color rendition and tack sharpness all displayed in this image.

You are way too kind, Steve! But I'll take it. I seriously thank you very much.

This is a fairly tight crop, but it isn't too bad! Birds are very challenging.

Terrific close-up shot of this black swan, Neal! It's so sharp with great detail.

Thanks very much, Mike. Much appreciated. They seem accustomed to humans and don't shy away like most birds.
