In my eyes they are relatives. Although both are primarily coastal dwelling, fish-eating raptors, in fact they are quite different birds, which most taxonomists place in different taxonomic families. The White-bellied Sea-Eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster) is native to coastal and riverine areas of Australia and south-east Asia as far as India. We have Osprey in Australia too; they look very similar to those in most of the rest of the world but are classified as a different species, Eastern Osprey, Pandion cristatus. Clipper_from_oz has posted some great photos of Eastern Osprey from northern Australia, here and here. Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.
