Kind of sad to see his colors disappear, but he still looks pretty cool with the speckled blue spots. Very nice capture, Richard!

Thank you very much, Steve. These guys are not uncommon around here. I see them more often now that I'm specifically looking for them. They are very similar to the ladder-backed woodpeckers.

I love when a surprise shows up in a picture that I couldn't see with the naked eye and this one maybe the best yet. Northern Cardinal with some of nature's bling!
