Wow! . You filled the frame with the Flicker. . They're usually really hard to get close to.

Hi Mike...

Great photograph of this colorful bird, and nice feather detail.

Lovely shot, Mike. A blue bird against a blue sky is tricky business, but you've done a nice job balancing the different shades.

Great detail and pose. . And it's always nice when there's light on your subject, but a shadow behind it, to make the bird stand out.

Gambel's Quail are high on my bucket list. . I spent an entire month in southern Arizona last spring, and saw Gambel's Quail every day. . But despite seeing many of them, I never had an opportunity for a quality photo. . Came close a couple of times, but never had a time when everything came together. . Would love to get back there and do what I failed to do last spring.

Hi Tom...

Thanks for the comments. Gambel's Quail, as you've discovered, can be seen readily in many areas of Arizona, but photographing them is challenging. Next time you're out this way (Phoenix/Scottsdale), drop me a PM. I think I can provide you with a location to fulfill your Gambel's Quail bucket list quest. :-)

A photo-lifer for me. I've seen a few before, but they like to stay down in the shrubs.

Thanks Tom! I was laying on the ground in some grass trying to get low level shots of some wood ducks and 2 Flickers landed about 30 feet away from me! Just really good dumb luck at the time, lol!

Terrific shot, Bill! It's so sharp and clean. The eyes are drawn immediately to to the cardinal, which is so lifelike in appearance.

Terrific shot, Ed! Very appealing.
