^^^^Actually the EOS 650 was the first in a line of EOS 6XX cameras. The 620, 630 & 600.

And the EOS R is the first in the line of EOS Rx cameras. But the EOS 650 was never updated, and I don't think the EOS R will be updated, either.

love my R. What are the skin tones like on the R6?? thanks everybody

Just as good IMO, and since the R6 is using tech from the 1DX3 (purportedly), one should have good expectations of IQ. Ultimately though, it ends up being more about either the picture styles and white balance you set up (if you shoot JPG) or the raw processor and applied filters that create your ultimate JPG or TIFF.

That's why I have three custom picture styles I created in the Canon Picture Style Editor and still use DPP to process my TIFFs.

There's not going to be any MKII of those cameras.

That I doubt?

Why? They have the R5, R6, and now R3, with an R1/R7 on the horizon if you believe patents and rumors.

The camera market is TINY compared to even just a few years ago, there cannot be support for these 5 models and then newer versions of the Rp/R. The cinema active cooling version of the R5 (R5C rumor) has a better chance of seeing the light of day over newer R/RP models.

Just to add to this. I have received my R, but have not used it yet. My order for the 24/105 L is on back order and my adapter ring is in transit. However I have downloaded the "Advanced User Guide" from Canon. It's a 641 page manual that is far more detailed and arranged in a more usable manner than the combined (english, spanish & french?) version that ships with the camera. Wow, the things the R can do.
And, it appears, to me, that this camera should have been called the R5 on its release and the current R5, should be called R5 Mark II. This would agree with the naming scheme Canon has used for the past few years with the rest of the EOS line.

Lou

The R doesn't have the AF, controls, or price tag to carry a name suggesting it's in the 5D line. That didn't happen until the R5.

And the 5D series has been well north of $3000 since at least the 5D2.

The R price also dropped pretty quickly after release, and its AF system and weather resistance isn't up to par with the 5d4. Finally it only has a single slot.

I had both the R and 5d4 for several months, the R was no 5d4. ;) The R6, if it had a 30Mpx sensor, would be a very worthy replacement for the 5d4 however, and beating it in some regards.

Could you explain it's deficiencies please (Other than the full weather sealing)

- AF system is inferior for sports/action
- Single card
- Spot AF is inferior to the spot AF of the 5D4
- Video is a bit better on the 5D4
- Lower battery life
- Few other nitpicky things

However, you would expect this with its $1200 lower price tag than the 5D4.

I just wish I had two more customization settings on my EOS R cameras. Three is not enough.

I wish the R and RP had the same three control dials of the R6 and R5. I have my R6 dialed in just right and would find it hard to do without any of the controls I have now at my finger tips. It's too bad because I'd really like to have lower priced backup.

Spot AF in the R is much larger in coverage than the 5D4, to the point it cannot pick out a player like the 5d4 can. The 5d4 spot AF coverage is more surgical in operation.

The R6 seems to a bit better, but still not quite there. However eye AF in the R6 is much better than the R, and reduces the need for spot AF in some situations.
