Hello POTN,
Has anyone else had the problem where extra images are created when importing images into LR? I am taking both Raw and JPG in the camera then importing them. Upon import, I am renaming the files to add extra proceeding digits for a numeric counter (10) and add the camera body name. But I always did that before without problem.

Now when I import I usually get multiple extra images with an added "-" and the number sequence is not correct either. I can filter on the "-" and delete the extras fairly easily but this is crazy. It's now a burden when I am importing images every day during migration. Importing extra images takes longer, building previews is longer, filtering and deleting an extra unneeded step.

My last import brought into 1,410 images, 700 of which were duplicates. You can see what I mean in the attached print screen. The extra images are flagged. A print screen after deleting the extra images is also shown.

I've googled this and found no fix.

I'd love advice for a fix but I'd be happy just to learn if anyone else has seen the problem.

Thanks very much.

Greg

You're shooting both raw and jpegs and saving them both to the same card. Lightroom imports all of the images on the card. Same think happened to me. The fix is to set your camera to save raw to one card and jpegs to the other.

If you look closely, two copies of the same RAW image are bring brought in, along with a JPG...three images per shot.

  1. IMG107444-7DII-2.CR2
  2. IMG107444-7DII.CR2
  3. IMG107444-7DII,JPG

Something is causing the import of the .CR2 file twice, and the -2 suffix is appended to the second copy. That is what you need to investigate "Why?"

Then the second image has four files coming in

  1. [COLOR="MediumBlue"]IMG102 7DII-10.CR2/COLOR]
  2. IMG107445-7DII-2.CR2
  3. IMG107445-7DII.CR2
  4. IMG107445-7DII.JPG

..TWO EXTRA

Then the third one also has four coming in

  1. IMG102 7DII-11.CR2
  2. IMG102 7DII-16.CR2
  3. IMG107446-7DII.CR2
  4. IMG107446-7DII.JPG

...TWO EXTRA but with a different naming pecularity from the prior images.
