The Royal Oak. New Ash Green. Kent. UK.

I couldn’t find a good history link for this pub but it was, at one time, on a back lane until a through road was built in front of it.

The Lion Hotel. Farningham village. Kent. UK.

In the 18th Century the then named Black Lyon, was the venue for all the important village meetings. Such status in the village meant that The Lion was once paid a visit by Charles Dickens whilst on a trout fishing trip. The River Darent at that time is reputed to have been full of trout.

Interesting photos in that link Ray
It's a busy intersection. Creeks (drains) , river, roads etc.
Some nice old bridges.
Like the way they bent the road around the pub :-P
Proverbially couldn't miss it

Makes me wish I’d have taken serious record shots when I was at school. The road was the main drag until the village was by-passed. I chose to leave a bit of the road in the picture just to give you some idea of the location. If you look up the hill there is another pub called the Chequers on the right - no picture yet. I didn’t know whether to post a picture of the picturesque village or not. -?

Part of Farningham High Street - July 2019.

The Wat Tyler. Dartford High Street. Kent. UK.
Dating back to 1381 and perhaps older.
This is a very old part of the high street still retaining its character, but Just in this little area of the town, and within the pub, little has changed for the many years that I've known it. However, the remainder of the town is now changing beyond recognition. With many old pubs demolished or closing and being converted to characterless shops.

The Wat Tyler. Dartford High Street. Kent. UK.

Times are changing. The Chinese to the left of the picture used to be one of the best toy shops for many miles around.

Just like old times - with a big flock of birds flying around the Church.:-)

Unfortunately Ray, the changes to the shops seem to be increasing and I wonder how long it is until we are part of an ethnic minority?

The Malt Shovel. Dartford. Kent. UK.
Used to be my local for about 25yrs.:-)
A traditional country pub on the edge of Dartford town centre and relatively unchanged. About 200yds from the Wat Tyler.
The Malt Shovel is a traditional pub with no fruit machines, juke box or Sky Sports, just a warm welcome, delicious home-cooked food and a great selection of cask ales, craft beers and an impressive wine list.

Looks like the Ram Pub Co. is changing ownership as I understand it. Must still be a lucrative business for some in spite of the price of a pint.

Surprising just how many pub chains seem to be springing up - we could end up with more chains than there are pubs to be owned - if you get what I mean.:-)

They will probably link lots together then Ray -?

I just wish that I had been around and handy when Weatherspoons were flogging their beer at £1/pint at the beginning of the first lockdown :-(
