There is no battery level display, there is only an icon (battery symbol with line striking thru) to show the need for battery replacement, per p.15 of user manual.

The problem is the use of AA form factor...the batteries themselves have no chip to report charge status, and the flash unit cannot possibly make an assumption about the mAh capacity of the battery, as they come with as little as 1200mAh and as much as 2500mAh.

I changed them today. The flash recharge time was taking more time than uaual.

If the batteries are weak can that cause the flash color to be a slight shade of yellow vs more blue/white.

AA batteries put a charge into a power capacitor after the Voltage is stepped up from 6v to hundreds of Volts. How fast/slow the batteries fill the capacitor has absolutely no effect on the output of high voltage to the flash tube...that is FIXED by the characteristics of the capacitor.

The only affect is on how old you get waiting for the filling to occur (if ever).

Is this (yellow coloration) something you are experiencing or are you just inquisitive?

I'm very much a tadpole when it comes to using the flash. I have had one for many years but it lives in the bag about 363 days of the year. Pulled it out today to toy with it, noticed the extended charge cycle time, and possibly a yellow tinge to some of the photos. Possibly. The color tone of the light would alter depending on the angle of the head, bounced vs direct, etc. I'm sure the bounced light was picking up the color of the wall paint, but it got me wondering if weak batts could be a factor in the color cast.
