..... or they one in the same ?

Camping next to the lake this weekend, I spotted one of these beautiful brown creatures dragging a freshly killed squirrel that was bigger than itself along the forest floor and led me to a hollow log lying on the ground deeper in the woods.

About an hour later, this whole family of 6 emerged. I was only about 8' away, sitting in the weeds behind another log. Aside from a healthy notice of my presence, they frolicked in and around the area for some time. No fuss, no muss.

They all seemed to have a little white patch under their chin.....

Anyone got a positive ID ?

Thx.

Whatever they are, you captured them well. They look so cute in the second image.

Indeed, I've only seen one mink in the wild. But aren't weasels even more notorious killers? They will kill chickens.

Only thing better in my book would have been being on deck to witness the squirrel skirmish !

I've lost chickens years back to what we blamed on weasels.....
and then there is the Ermine that turn white in the winter to watch for.
