Hi there. Long time no see. Used to lurk around the tripod section on this forum.

I have an ancient Nikon D40 with a Micro 105 VR for dental photography (not looking to upgrade BTW).

Recently I got a flash bracket (https://www.owlbracket.com (external link)) but the barrel of the lens is bigger than the bottom part of the camera, an thus the bracket doesn't stay flush with the camera body.

What is the best solution for this problem? (Also, must be grippy in order for the bracket not to rotate on the camera itself).

Regards,

maia

Direct mount to tripod head appears to be problematic, but if the body were mounted on a QR plate (one of many Arca-compatible systems), which then locks into a QR base, I would think that would resolve the issue. I use an RRS L-bracket and that adds 8mm to the bottom. If your bracket would usually screw into the tripod socket of the camera body, it could screw into one of the 1/4-20 holes in the QR plate. Unfortunately that link does not appear to illustrate the mounted flash bracket on a camera, and you did not mention which model you have/are considering.
