What do you think of these two shots of my wife's Petunias in the big whiskey barrel planter in the front yard. Both were taken with my Nikon D3500, the "kit lens" Nikkor DX 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G standard zoom lens. First photo was from one angle, the other from another angle. I had the Nikon on "P"rogrammed Auto, so it chose the shutter & aperture, while I could have compensated and/or adjusted if I wanted to.

Which one looks better?

Prefer no 1 if had to chose.
Nicer composition, for my eye.

Is the first taken from a lower angle? Looks like it could be on my tablet.

It's a subtle difference, but I prefer number 1 too.

insufferably pedantic. I can live with that.

I prefer #2 for composition. #1 loses liveliness by having the blue/white pattern too close to symmetrical.

I would strongly consider shooting from a lower angle so the lawn isn't as dominant in the image? They kind of get lost in the visual bramble. I know its not what you asked... but one truth about most images is the simpler, cleaner an image, the more compelling it will be. Background is a killer of images. Going lower will clean up the image visually....

Fun stuff though. Number 2 slightly edges it for me....

Number one. Number two has some flower-less spots in the center, plus that stay branch sticking out. I'd crop it some and get rid of that peripheral grass, or just go reshoot it. Try a lot of angles and heights and different distances from the flowers.
