Hello everyone. I cannot make up my mind as to which upgrade I should make for my new "Job". I am volunteering to do photography at my church every week, as well as special events. I am shooting with a EOS R and primarily using my EF 70-200 F2.8 III and I am pretty happy with that set up most of the time and for most of what I have been shooting. But occasionally I need something wider and my RF24-105 F4 really needs more light than I have available so I am bumping up the ISO super high and the situation is not great. I can't afford both upgrades at this time, But I feel either up grade would help. My understanding is that the R6 is significantly better at high ISO's than the EOS R. So I think that would be helpful for when I need something wider and continue to use my RF24-105. On the other hand, having the extra stop of light will also be helpful. Some other food for thought, I do enjoy shooting my Nieces and nephews sports, which had stopped so I sold my 7DmkII last year, and I was hoping to hold out for an R7 at some point. I also realize that the R6 would still be better than my R for that job. Thanks for any of your thoughts on whether I should upgrade my lens or camera first.

My kit : Canon EOS R6 and EOS R, RF 24-105mm f/4 IS L, EF‑S 16-35mm F4 L, EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM, EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS III, EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM, Sigma 35mm Art f/1.4, Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX II, 600exII-RT, 580EX II. Gitzo GT2542 and RRS BH-55, Peak Designs Carbon Fiber Tripod, Think Tank MindShift BackLight 36L and 26L, and Think Tank Retrospective V20 2.0.

While the R6 is better than the R, I don't think it's one stop better, so I'd go for the 24-70 2.8. The only reason you might not make that move would be if you need more DOF than 2.8 would allow.

Late to the party here... but the lense is a better long term solution to your needs. Camera bodies will come and go, but lenses will last you decades. Yes, computational photography will radically change everything, and make most anything possible. But no matter the next body that comes out, your lens will still be a valuable tool. Thats where I would lean. I've got lenses I bough 20 plus years ago I still use. Can't say the same for any of my camera bodies.

R6 is indeed better on high ISO, plus IBIS. And since here is no dancing on the ceiling, you could go with lower shutter speed with 24-105.

I'd probably go with the lens but before I do I'd experiment more with the 24-105 that you already own. The R6 is 10 less mp than the R so you do lose some cropping ability. For slow moving subjects the R should do just fine.

If you're on a budget I'd even consider an RF 35 1.8 for times the F4 isn't enough.

I have a few lenses that I use for church services. I went ahead and got the 28-70 f2, but before that I was using the 35 1.8 and I've been very happy with that lens overall.
