If any of you are thinking of heading to Rocky Mountain National for the Elk rut this fall be aware of some changes for this year. In addition to needing a timed entry reservation if you want to have access to the meadow at Moraine Park you also need a second timed entry reservation for the bear lake corridor.
There are some ways around that, entering the corridor before 5am or after 6pm is allowed without a reservation but it means a lot of sitting in the dark waiting and by the time e you can enter after 6 the light can fade fast if there is any cloud cover.
We didn't know that the Bear Lake reservation requirement included Moraine Park and it dampened our entire trip having to work around the requirements. The good news is there seems to be more Moose activity this fall and the elk herds are more dispersed so you might have just as good access to other meadows.
