.I'm very excited to see the 16mm 2.8 coming. I can see this getting a lot of use. Just wondering if anyone else is as excited as I am for this?
. .
It depends entirely on the minimum focus distance and magnification ratio.
I really want / need a wide angle macro lens. . I mean true macro with at least a 1:1 magnification ratio. . There is a lens like that on the market, but at the moment I forget what brand and focal length. . But I am pretty sure it was a 3rd party offering, and that Canon didn't make a true macro in very short focal lengths like 15mm or 16mm.
If this new 16mm f2.8 is capable of true 1:1 macro, then it would be very exciting, and possibly compel me to buy my first RF mount mirrorless body!
If this new 16mm lens is not close to true macro capabilities, then I have no interest whatsoever. . The only use I have for such a wide focal length is to get it an inch or three away from reptiles and amphibians and butterflies and get dramatic looking environmental portraits. . Wide angle does nothing for me outside of this context.
