I picked up this lens for a wide angle solution for my EOS R, as I sold off my EF 16-35mm f/4 IS -- making my RF 24-105L my widest lens. I just cannot justify the cost for the RF 14-35L f/4 IS right now.

I have only used the lens once so far. Here are a couple of shots from our place in South Carolina.

First shots with lens at different f stops. Still wish the clouds were sharper even at f11 they are a little fuzzy.

So the story on my lens is that I sold it for what I paid for it to a friend who lives outside the USA when I saw him recently. Photo gear is more expensive where he lives. I then ordered another one from B&H and although it has arrived I haven't had a chance to use it yet!!!

The other providential result is that my wife likes the test shot I posted just above this entry and wants me to make a print for her office!!

I got the Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 today and haven't got to use it that extensively but so far I'm REALLY loving it! I've always dreamed of a 16mm prime and this has been a dream lens for me so really happy it's finally released. .

Thank you! Admittedly I’ve barely used the lens since getting it though…

You planning on keeping yours? I’m tempted to save for a 14-35mm as I’m starting to feel when it comes to UWA and super tele’s it’s best to have a zoom!

If I end up swapping out this lens, it will probably be for the new RF 15-30mm f/4,5-6.3 IS STM, and not the 14-35L f/4. I do not use a UWA lens enough to justify the cost of the L, and also like having a smaller & lighter lens. My previous EF 16-35L f/4 was relatively big and heavy for something I didn't use much.

I plan on hanging onto the RF 16mm f/2.8 for now and will see if I miss having a UWA zoom. This is the first time I have went with a prime-only solution for UWA. It sure makes it easier to pack for a trip, though. I have my EOS R with RF 24-105L, RF 100-400mm, RF 16mm f/2.8 and RF 50mm f/1.8 all packed in a small shoulder bag for an upcoming trip. With my previous EF 100-400L II and EF 16-35L f/4, I would have been taking the much larger and heavier backpack -- or taking my EOS M50 kit if I wanted to travel very light.
