While attending my oldest grandson's graduation from Marine Recruit training in San Diego, I heard an outburst in a nearby tree. A couple of wild parrots were in a dispute - probably over who's tree it was - and the one in these photographs seems to have won the argument because he was in the top of the tree. His foe stayed further down in the tree. I thought that, with San Diego being close to Mexico, Parrots might be native but a little research revealed that they are not. But San Diego apparently has a pretty large population of wild parrots who are descended from captive birds which have escaped - or been released.

Mexican Red-Fronted (Crowned) Amazon... they're actually endangered but naturally in the area, native to North-Eastern Mexico. They're very vocal early morning and late evening for their flock calls. You can see them around Pacific Beach eating from the local fruit trees, also the USD campus.

Poway has another mixed flock of escapees and natives species, cherry-headed conures, also very loud.
