I recently started hiking around the local lake. It's not a long hike (4 miles) but it's hilly in spots and I use a hiking pole. I need my hands free while walking. I've been carrying my Sony RX10 MkIV in a shoulder sling case, but that's a bit of a pain when I want to take a shot and have to unzip the case and pull the camera out, then turn it on and shoot. I'd like to have just the camera secured in a way that I can just grab it and shoot without dealing with a case. But it also has to sit securely so it's not banging around while I'm trekking through the woods. I have a small hydration backpack I wear that has shoulder straps and chest straps (actually a cycling hydration pack), so a system that attaches to that would work as well. I looked at such a system on the B&H website, but too many reviews complained about the quality of the materials.

Any recommendations from folks who hike with bridge cameras or small DSLR setups?

Look at the line of products from cotton carrier. They have some adaptable solutions

I agree. I've been using a Cotton Carrier harness for a few years. Highly recommend.

For hiking and long walk, my go to solution is the Cotton Carrier Vest. Been using it now for nearly two decades. I wear photographer's vest, one for cold and one for warm temperature, over the CCV so it's not conspicuous. I use a neck/shoulder strap that serves as safety tether.

Thanks, all. Cotton Carrier has a sale on their Camo Skout product, so I grabbed that one. Looks perfect.

Much appreciated.
