I downloaded this program and have been using it to check shutter counts and synchronize the clocks on our fleet of Canon DSLR.

https://sourceforge.net …s/canon-eos-digital-info/ (external link)

This is a very handy and simple to use non-installing program (portable).

It allowed me to synchronize the clocks on our cameras; something that has eluded me during numerous failed attempts.

However, although the description says 7DMkII is supported, it refuses to "Connect"

When I turn ON the 7DMkII, the bottom string of text says "Camera Detected:Canon EOS 7D Mark II"; so, it knows the camera is there, it just will not "Connect"

The version I have is 1.4.0.3

Is anyone familiar with this program/

Can anyone shed some light on my situation ?

The program worked fine on two Rebel T3 and two EOS 7D.

This software looks amazing. I'd never heard of it before.

For shutter counts on modern cameras, I use the Shuttercount app from Dire Studios. That works good but it's read only (can't do clock syncronizations, etc.), and it only works on Mac hardware. I put it on an IPad and it works great but I've been looking for something that works on Windows.

I downloaded the CanonEosDigitalInfo (CEDI) software and it doesn't seem to work on any of my cameras.

I dug into the documentation and apparently Canon changed the software development kit (SDK) when they moved to the Digic 6 processor. There's a link on the CEDI page to download the new SDK (version 3.5) but that link is broken and I'm not sure I'd know what to do with it even if it worked. And apparently the shutter count functionality doesn't work with that SDK.

Even though the 7Dii is on the 'compatible' list, it has a Digic 6 processor. It would be the only camera on that list with that processor. Every other camera on that list has a Digic 5 processor or earlier.

This is why you don't see a lot of 3rd-party software that interacts with Canon software. It's a mug's game. Canon can pull the rug out from under you without any notification or concern.

The CEDI developer mentioned that he reverse engineered Canon functionality - at the time - to have his software make the connection. But when the Canon functionality changed, all that work went away. The last update on the CEDI page was 2019. I guess he gave up.

It really is amazing and super-simple to use.

On our cameras that were supported, besides making the clocks to be synchronized, I was able to enter Owner name in each camera, which is something I had never before been able to do.

Also, although I can enter and edit Artist/Author and Copyright by using the camera itself, it is far less tedious and frustrating when doing it within this program, where you get to use a real keyboard and see and easily correct any mistakes before you commit.

As for the 7DMkII, from what I gather, originally, the program was able to Read/Write the 7DMkII; but, it lost that ability after a firmware update; so, if one has a never-updated 7DMkII, then the program probably will work.

I am assuming/hoping that Satellite/Greenwich Time is dead-on in agreement with computer time; if that be the case, then my cameras that are synchronized with computer time should also be synchronized with the 7DMkII, which clock is constantly being updated via Satellite.
