It did for me anyway. I predicted it would one day. $5.99 which is 5% for the annual subscription. I'll tolerate it this time but it they start to increase every year then it will be good bye. Still waiting for it to double ;-)a

Wow. Color me surprised. Surprised, that is, that they waited this long. I abandoned Photoshop when they switched to the subscription structure, perceiving it as a money grab. I've been using Capture One ever since.

C1 has gone up in the last 5 years. Annual updates aren't cheap. When I was using Adobe stand alone I updated every time and knowing myself I'd be updating C1 every year as well, even if I didn't have to. The Adobe plan comes with a personal website - Portfolio which is integrated with LR. I dropped Zenfolio which was costing $150 a year.

In the summer of 2020 C1 was advertising Portfolio for free for one year via SmugMug and it was it not integrated with C1. After a year you'd have to pay. Last time I checked Portfolio via Smugmug was $180 a year. Value is different to everyone.

Doing a little hunting it turns out it's not an increase. I don't quite understand it but it is some odd way Adobe charges Canadian customers. Apparently it's based on the strength of the Canadian dollar, exchange rates etc. I didn't noticed this before because it just renews automatically every year via PayPal. My credit card statement just shows the final price in CND and the exchange rate the day the charge was made.

Going back through my Adobe account history last year I paid $105. Previous to that was $125. Going back one more year it was $103. I don't ever remember getting an email from Adobe telling my pricing went up. An explanation would have been nice.

So there has been no price increase for the Photo Plan, or any other plan that I know of.

Instead of starting a new thread. I just got another email from Adobe. Two more apps - Premiere Rush and Photoshop Express will added to my plan (20GB Photography) at no charge.

Current US Adobe subscription for Photoshop + Lightroom and 1TB of cloud storage is $19.95 per month.
"It's only $20 per month!"

But if you banked $20 each month, and could get 4% annual return on it, over a 40 year hobby what seemingly is a $9600 expense, had you kept that money instead based upon 4% return that could be $23,540 in the bank account!

There is nothing wrong simply to be aware of REAL cost over a lifetime.

It used to be that you could get an upgrade for $99, and you could chose to skip one version and get the latest every other year. $200 for both LR and Photoshop every other year for 40 years would be $4000, much more affordable to a hobbyist than what is expected today. It may be easily absorbed by someone making a living through its use, but if you are a retired person on Social Security it might mean giving up on photography as a continuing hobby. in order to cover the essentials. As of August 2021, the average check is $1,437.55, according to the Social Security Administration. That's $17256 per year. The Federal Poverty Line is $17,420 for a family of 2.

But if you retire at 66 and have $23k less in the bank account, it is YOUR problem until the day you die.

Yes but I don’t care. When we worked going out to move we our stress release. We went at least one a week for 20 years. At about $60 CND. Do the math on that one. Even if you do I won’t care because I don’t regret a single moment. :-)

I lost 3 friends to prostate cancer. One just a few weeks ago. I’m living life large.

Yes, but if you're going to compare this to the old pricing approach, you have to remove the 1 TB of storage, given that the perpetual licenses included no storage at all. The Adobe photo plan with 20 MB of storage is $9.95.

True, but many do not use the cloud storage provided, preferring their data is archived on a second harddrive which is stored somewhere other than home/office. It is 'no value' and merely a marketing gimmick by Adobe for unwanted capability.

Cloud storage is really only of value if you use a laptop to edit on the road, and a desktop to edit same photos back in the office with both accessing the same photos in the cloud.

I would much rather have 40 years of top-notch photo editing capability than an extra $23,540 in some account when I am too old and worn out to get full enjoyment from it. . I mean, looking at it the way you broke it down, that $20 per month looks like even more of a good value.

40 years of use of premium photo editing software is well worth $23,540. . The pleasure and enjoyment that I have gotten from some of the editing I have done in Photoshop is worth so much, it's hard to put a number on it.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
